The UPOU OGC presented the seminar entitled, “Stress and Sex: Dynamics for Women and Men”, held at the UPOU Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL) on March 14, 2019.
Dr. Rowena Del Rosario-Raymundo, Obstetrician-Gynecologist/Infectious Disease Specialist, and Chair of the UPOU Master of Distance Education program discussed ways of understanding stress, and its impact on the sexual health of women and men. For instance, in the framework of the General Adaptation Syndrome, stress can be seen as occurring in stages as the human body manifests physiological responses and changes: alarm, resistance, or exhaustion. Stress can have a negative, long-term impact on sexual health, while the act of sex can, in fact, can relieve stress. Dr. Raymundo also shared some tips on how to address stress-related sexual problems, as well as answered questions from the audience, leaving them with the quote, “It’s not stress that kills us, it is our reaction to it that does”.
