UPOU: ON UPHOLDING GENDER EQUALITY AND RECOGNIZING LIVED IDENTITIES DURING GRADUATION RITES

The University of the Philippines Open University further operationalizes its gender diversity and inclusivity principles by allowing transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) individuals to freely be and express themselves based on their gender identities and expression during graduation ceremony.  With the recommendation from the UPOU Office of Gender Concerns (OGC), the Chancellor’s Advisory Council (CAC) at its 221st meeting on August 10, 2022 approved the following guidelines for the graduation ceremony:  Candidates for graduation will be given an option to add their lived names or preferred lived names in the Graduation Programs The Graduation Programs will contain the legal and lived [...]

UPOU Office of Gender Concerns Director Elected as President of the Asian Association of Women’s Studies

The Director of the Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, will serve as the president of the Asian Association of Women’s Studies (AAWS) for 2023 to 2025.  AAWS is an organization that serves as a forum to promote and discuss feminist education and research in Asia. UPOU’s ODeL Identified as an Intervention For Gender Equality and Inclusivity in a Women’s Month Forum

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) opened the celebration of Women's Month with a timely and informative webinar entitled "ODeL for the Future and ALL: UPOU Women's Month Forum." January 17, 2023 – The Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) organized the year’s first meeting-workshop for the members of the Gender Focal Point System at UPOU. Dr. Melinda dP Bandalaria, Chancellor and Chairperson of GFPS, welcomed the members in the meeting-workshop. On November 25, 2022, the University of the Philippines Open University Office of Gender Concerns (UPOU-OGC) held a special session on gender considerations in online learning for this year’s 7th National Conference on Open and Distance e-Learning (NCODeL). OGC talks about community effort to stop VAWC in 18-Day Campaign Webinar “You and Me Against Violence”

As part of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, the UP Open University (UPOU) Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) conducted the first part of the two part session webinar entitled “You and Me against Violence: Role of the Community in Stopping Gender-Based Violence” held last December 01, 2022.  Dr. Finaflor F.
