Shout out to all artists and filmmakers who continue to utilize art in creating awareness about the issues on Violence Against Women (VAW). In a film showing during #UPOpenUniversity’s 23rd Anniversary, the movie “Broken Halleluyah” by Mr. Roland Sanchez exposes the disturbing nature of human trafficking. The complexity of the movie’s characters pointed out to one unmistakable conclusion that women are not commodities to be sold and not slaves to be used and abused. UPOU’s Assistant Professor Finaflor Taylan served as a Session Moderator, and Assistant Professor Rameses De Jesus was a participant in this event that gathered together representatives from each ASEAN nation who are gender advocates.  Issues, policy crafting, and action plans relevant to the SEA region were discussed.

The University of the Philippines System institutionalized a new Anti-Sexual Harassment Code, made public in March 2017, for compliance of all constituents of the university. Some highlights are as follows: What is sexual harassment? OGC conducts a seminar on “Psycho- Emotional Well-Being of Women and Men in the Workplace”

The UP Open University Health & Wellness Committee in cooperation with All UP Workers Alliance, and the Office of Gender Concerns held a seminar on “Psycho- Emotional Well-Being of Women and Men in the Workplace” with Asst. Prof. Rameses de Jesus as resource person. This seminar aimed to increase awareness about factors (stress, anxiety, depression, personality styles, working relationships) that affect mental health in the workplace. This was held at the UPOU AudioVisual Room (Main Building) on 26 October 2017 (Thursday), 9:00-12:00 NN.
