UPOU OGC conducts Gender Consultation (GAD Execom meeting and planning with units/offices) on 29 Oct 2018

The Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) conducts the UPOU Gender Consultation (GAD Execom Meeting and Planning with units and offices) on 29 October 2018 at the UPOU AudioVisual Room. The consultation started with a short presentation on highlights of UPOU Gender and Development Works and 2019 Plans by OGC Director Asst. Prof. Rameses de Jesus. It was followed by a short workshop and presentation of UPOU units' and offices' GAD suggestions and plans that UPOU can incorporate for 2019 and 2020.

OGC, FMDS CONDUCTS LTIO: SITUATING WOMEN IN TODAY’S ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Diploma in Women and Development (DWD) Program under the Faculty of Management and Development Studies in partnership with the Office of Gender Concerns held a Let’s Talk It Over Lecture Series entitled “Situating Women in Today’s Economy and Environment” on 27 March 2018 at the AudioVisual Room, UPOU Headquarters, Los Banos, Laguna. The lecture series presents two topics: gender research on women’s role in the (1) economy and (2) environment. The seminar aimed to provide a venue for UPOU constituents to access practical information on reproductive health concerns and sexually transmitted infections (STI's), and their varying impact on women and men.  This is part of our celebration of the National Women's Month, and we were fortunate to have our very own Senior Lecturer (FEd), Dr. Wen Raymundo, who is also an Obstetrician-Gynecologist, who shared medical information about the topic.  This also served as part of UPOU's endeavors toward wellness and health in the university.

UPOU joins Walk for a Cause in celebration of International Women’s Day

Over 30 UPOU participants joined the annual Walk for a Cause, a fundraising event in support of effort toward the prevention of cancer in women, organized by the local municipality of Los Banos, on 8 March 2018.  Ninety percent of the proceeds go to the diagnostics of possible cancer patients, while 10% go to the production of information, education, and communication materials to spread awareness about cancer in women.

Film and Making Change Work for Women

Shout out to all artists and filmmakers who continue to utilize art in creating awareness about the issues on Violence Against Women (VAW). In a film showing during #UPOpenUniversity’s 23rd Anniversary, the movie “Broken Halleluyah” by Mr. Roland Sanchez exposes the disturbing nature of human trafficking. The complexity of the movie’s characters pointed out to one unmistakable conclusion that women are not commodities to be sold and not slaves to be used and abused. The movie aims to transform, inform, and motivate the viewers to help protect the integrity and safety of the women, the weak, and the oppressed. #WomenMakeChange #eLearning [...]
