On December 5 2024, the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) facilitated a benchmarking activity by Marcelo Green Elementary School aimed at fostering gender sensitivity and inclusivity in basic education and in the workplace. This initiative underscores UPOU’s good reputation on gender mainstreaming and its dedication to advancing gender-responsive education in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 4 (Quality Education), No. 5 (Gender Equality), and No. 7 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The program began with a warm welcome from Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, OGC Director, followed by an inspiring opening message delivered by Ms. Evangeline Malicdem, Principal of Marcelo Green Elementary School. To set the tone for the session, the event featured videos showcasing the OGC’s mandate, best practices, and initiatives, paving the way for a highly engaging and insightful discussion.
During the open forum, Dr. Taylan underscored the significance of integrating Gender and Development (GAD) principles into the education system as a means to cultivate a more inclusive society.
