The UP Open University (UPOU) is joining girls around the world in celebrating the “International Girls in ICT Day” on 22 April 2021.

With the 2021 theme Connected Girls, Creating Brighter Futures, UPOU supports the global campaign to build awareness about the gender digital divide, support technology education and skills training, and encourage more girls and young women to actively pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

This global movement highlights the need to promote technology career opportunities for girls and women in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) — the world’s fastest-growing sector.

UPOU, as the pioneer and leading online university in the Region, promotes the importance of critical digital literacy and technological skills through its various course offerings and innovations in course delivery.

With technology being a part of all kinds of careers, learning technological skills at a young age will promote lifelong learning, set girls up for economic independence, and eventually lead towards women empowerment.
