The Landscape of SOGIESC Advocacy in the Philippines Webinar

The Office of Gender Concerns successfully celebrated Pride Month with a webinar titled "Landscape of SOGIESC Advocacy in the Philippines." The event, was held  at the UP Open University Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna, in hybrid mode. Aligned with UPOU's chosen theme for Pride Month, "ODeL4GEDSI: Connecting Identities, Creating Allies," the webinars aimed to explore the diverse landscape of SOGIESC (sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression) advocacy in the Philippines. UPOU Office of Gender Concerns Director Elected as President of the Asian Association of Women’s Studies

The Director of the Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), Dr. Finaflor F. Taylan, will serve as the president of the Asian Association of Women’s Studies (AAWS) for 2023 to 2025.  AAWS is an organization that serves as a forum to promote and discuss feminist education and research in Asia. UPOU’s ODeL Identified as an Intervention For Gender Equality and Inclusivity in a Women’s Month Forum

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) opened the celebration of Women's Month with a timely and informative webinar entitled "ODeL for the Future and ALL: UPOU Women's Month Forum." The webinar highlighted the vital role of Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) in ensuring access to education and promoting gender equality. The invited resource speaker was Criselda Bisda, a human resource practitioner for 16 years. Her expertise is in gender, disability, and social inclusion especially in disaster risk reduction. January 17, 2023 – The Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) organized the year’s first meeting-workshop for the members of the Gender Focal Point System at UPOU. Dr. Melinda dP Bandalaria, Chancellor and Chairperson of GFPS, welcomed the members in the meeting-workshop. UPOU-OGC Chairs Special Session on Gender in Online Learning at NCODeL 2022

On November 25, 2022, the University of the Philippines Open University Office of Gender Concerns (UPOU-OGC) held a special session on gender considerations in online learning for this year’s 7th National Conference on Open and Distance e-Learning (NCODeL). The theme of the conference was “NCODeL 2022: Reimagining Education Futures.” Entitled “Gender Dimensions in Public Education and Healing Through Distance Learning and Interventions,” the special session was held via online conferencing and was chaired by Dr. Finaflor Taylan, Director of the OGC. As part of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, the UP Open University (UPOU) Office of Gender Concerns (OGC) conducted the first part of the two part session webinar entitled “You and Me against Violence: Role of the Community in Stopping Gender-Based Violence” held last December 01, 2022.  Dr. Finaflor F. The Orange Exhibit: A Journey Towards a VAW-Free Philippines

  The Online Orange Exhibit: A Journey Towards a VAW-Free Philippines is launched by the University of the Philippines Open University Office of Gender Concerns to celebrate the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women. It was launched on November 25, 2022, and will continue until December 12, 2022, the last day of the campaign. OGC launches Gender Orientation site for new FMDS students

The Office of Gender Concerns opened the Gender Orientation site for new FMDS students last September 10, 2022 on UPOU MyPortal to introduce students to the office’s services and the policies they must adhere to as they enter the university. The portal also contains a recorded video that tackles gender sensitivity as well as videos and infographics on laws and university policies on gender. The new site also gives information on different ways on how students can report cases of gender-based violence.
